Most songs have a working title, then later acquire something more official or apt sounding, typically a snazzy lyric from the song. In this case I kept the working title because I have a fond memory of the night I was filled with melodies and rhythms that would become this song. I was at a pop-up drive-in theater seeing the movie Wolf Walker with Kelsey and our two boys. For an animated film it was pretty dark and intense, but beautiful and well done to all of our enjoyment. One thing I like about going to the theater to see a film is the sound fills the space and encompasses you, but we were in the car listening on the meager car speakers, drive-in style. So, I unintentionally started writing some of the musical ideas while watching the dark story unfold. I wouldn't say that the song goes with the movie necessarily, but I kept the working title to hold on to the memory of that shared experience we had. Also, it was really cold so we had to keep the windows up... and ... to Kelsey's horror, the winds were breaking.
lyrics
Struggling for purchase on the way up
Carved out a notch where we're laid up
It's alright to be nervous, don't look down while we careen
Rippling heat sheen
The wilderness has served us
Up to be unsung
Lonesome
Bobbing but oh so free
The jetsam is floating
The load is light enough
Now we can go
We went to bed with the light on
The earth turning its back to the sun
There's no need to be nervous
These dreams won't hurt us
Turn your chariot to a crowded sky of nothing
Enveloping
Bright morning comes for us every time
Chimes sing underneath
Warm memories of July
